The Power to Transform

It’s the powerful work of the Holy Spirit to transform a heart, and take it from darkness to light, as you’ll hear with this Global Story

Welcome to “The Global Story,” a weekly glimpse into how God is at work through the global Body of Christ. This is Galen from Global Disciples.

Lisimba directs a discipleship-mission training program in Malawi. He usually interviews the men and women who want to attend the training before they begin. One interview was with a young man named Eetu, from neighboring Mozambique. In their conversation, Eetu claimed to be a serious born-again believer. So Lisimba extended the invitation and the young man came to the training.

About 10 days in, everything was going well, until they came to a time of 24 hour time of prayer and fasting. At about midnight, during an intensive session of praise and worship, something changed. Lisimba said, “It was like it happened on the Day of Pentecost!” He described a sudden heat filling in the room and then Eetu, the young man, began wailing and crying, tears rolling down his face and he started to open his heart and confess.

He confessed that he was a witch; he had traveled to many places, practicing the magic he’d learned from his grandfather. And now even at the training, he’d been trying to work his black-magic! Once he started confessing, he couldn’t stop! It went on for 3 hours, confessing his sins with wailing and tears and every expression of brokenness. Finally, he reached a point of calmness and his confession turned to repentance as he received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of his life. The rest of the participants gathered around and prayed for Eetu and the transforming work the Spirit was doing in his life.

After his horrible deception, this young man had experienced God’s grace and found light out of darkness. But that’s just the beginning. Lisimba reported, “I want to assure you that this man is now so serious about doing God’s work! In just 3 months he has reached 562 homes with the Gospel of Jesus, leading many to repentance and salvation.”

Praise God for His mighty power and His transforming grace! And for allowing us to be part of it through the training and equipping disciple-makers like Lisimba and Eetu.
