When God gives you a vision for His work, don’t let it go…get others to share it with you! That’s the lesson in this Global Story…
Welcome to “The Global Story,” a weekly glimpse into how God is at work through the global Body of Christ. This is Galen from Global Disciples.
Sometimes growth is explosive, and we get caught up in its momentum. Other times, growth comes in small steps over a long period. But it’s still growth. Global Disciples has served alongside churches in Latin America since 1998 and growth has generally been slow. But we’re seeing signs that momentum in shifting. Training directors and partnering churches are catching the vision to reach those in their own regions who have yet to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ.
These leaders are seeing the potential of cooperating with each other, and bringing along Christian business leaders to develop the resources for sustainable training and outreach.
Juan is a program director in Bolivia, and he discovered that potential firsthand. He took our Global Disciples Directors training to help his cluster churches start a discipleship-mission program. When the church leaders were unable to raise their 51% of the program costs, as required by Global Disciples, they chose not to proceed. Juan struggled with this decision, and finally asked the leadership if they would bless him to do the training anyway – even without the funds. They said yes. He then shared the vision with friends and business people, and they gave their support.
The first training session that Juan led had 15 participants. And they had adequate funds to provide them with a bus to use on outreach. They went to 15 villages, presenting the Gospel of Jesus, assisting the few small churches they found, and adding 300 new adult believers to the life of the church! Oh, and about 400 children too.
After the outreach, the church leaders from Juan’s church joined him and his team to hear their stories of transformation. And these church leaders repented for not stepping out in faith to support the training financially. They were so grateful that the support from the business people fully covered 100% of the program costs and left some over for the next training or other needs.
Juan’s encouragement to other directors and leaders is simple: When God gives you the vision, don’t stop!
