Lent: Equipped to Work Together

As you consider your life as a disciple of Jesus, do you allow the Holy Spirit to equip you and work to accomplish His task?

This task is to make Jesus known to people and to disciple them. We call it mission or the Great Commission.

Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that we’re created in Christ Jesus to do good works that God has prepared for us. And sometimes we forget the unlimited resources we have through the Holy Spirit. And that we don’t have to do it alone. Ephesians 4:16 tells us we’re equipped to work together—as the Body of Christ. We can’t accomplish the mission of Jesus solo.

From Myanmar, Brother Tang reflected this aspect of being a disciple. He directs a discipleship-training program, and he’s leaned on the Holy Spirit equipping to share Jesus with those who’ve never heard the Good News.

Recently, Tang said, “In the last two years, we planted new fellowships in different villages with God’s help. One fellowship had eight families; ten families in another, and one had thirteen families all in a new fellowship!” Last year, they also started an outreach in a prison of 360—with seven people accepting Christ as Savior and Lord. “God is at work even in the prison!” Tang rejoiced.

He sees the Holy Spirit equip them for the task. Tang said, “Wherever we are placed, our responsibility is to sow the seed of the Gospel. But we cannot do the work alone,” Tang said.

For Tang, a relationship with Global Disciples encouraged his church in their vision to reach their people and provide tools to move the vision forward.

We each need and benefit from working side by side with other disciples as we carry out Christ’s mission. Tang put it this way, “I may be able to clean a small room alone, but I need others if we are to clean the whole city. We need partnership in sharing the Gospel of salvation.”

So let me ask again, as a disciple of Jesus, do you allow the Holy Spirit to equip you and work with other disciples to accomplish the task?
