Kamal & the Beggar
“In my district, a big district in India, I was the first to accept Christ there,” Kamal eagerly told the story of how he came to faith in Jesus Christ.
It began when a beggar came to Kamal’s neighborhood. The beggar was an itinerant man from a low caste. His people survive by begging. He slept outside Kamal’s house one night. Kamal despised the man, but since he had so little and it was rainy, he took him an old blanket.
The beggar asked if he could talk with him. Kamal agreed and the beggar shared about Jesus and gave him a Bible!
In disgust, Kamal burned the Bible. But he couldn’t sleep that night and decided to learn more about this Bible. There were no local Christians, but he heard there were some in a city—three days journey by train!
When Kamal reached his destination, he bumped into the same itinerant beggar! They talked and eventually Kamal found his way to people who taught him about the Bible. And he accepted the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.
Growing in his faith, Kamal now brings others to Christ in his home area. He directs a discipleship-mission training program, launched with the help of Global Disciples.
In the first year, “I trained 21 people. All of them are now pastors!” Kamal happily reported. “We have started 52 churches in our district. In the first outreach, we baptized 151 people.”
And the beggar? Kamal now supports this man who leads a church among his own people!
Once unreached with the Gospel, Kamal now passionately shares the Good News with those who have yet to hear it!
