Reflections on Nepal: A Global Disciples Vision Trip
Keilah works with the Global Disciples Partner Relations team and reflects on her experience with one of our Vision Trips.
Earlier this year, a group of eight North Americans traveled across the world to Nepal to connect with and learn from our Nepali brothers and sisters. We spent five days listening to the testimonies of church leaders and small business owners who have completed one of our Global Disciples training phases. Some have become program directors and trainers themselves.
On our second day, we visited several businesses and church leaders in a village. The testimony from two of the men we met really stood out to me.
One man shared that he previously had a disease that affected his foot. He had sought healing through various methods, but nothing worked. Then someone told him about a church and “this God” who heals. He wanted to visit this place and find this God, but he was too sick to walk.
Word got back to the local church, and they sent some men to carry him to the church for prayer.
Through this loving act and encountering Jesus, this man gave his life to Christ and now glorifies God through his testimony. As he told his story, the man sitting next to him was beaming with joy as he listened to his friend. He had been one of the men who helped carry him to church!
It reminded me of Mark 2 and Luke 5 and the men who carried their paralyzed friend and lowered him through the ceiling to Jesus. I was hearing a current day Bible story! We saw that not only are the Nepali people spreading the Gospel like modern day Acts, but they are physically carrying people to Jesus for healing!
On our third day we visited Hindu and Buddhist temples. Seeing thousands of people coming to worship at these places gave me a glimpse of the one third who have never heard the Good News of Jesus. It provided a powerful visual of why we do what we do as Global Disciples, why I sit at my desk and help to connect your heart with God’s heart for the least-reached.
I was on the ground for only a few days to experience Global Disciples in Nepal. I heard many testimonies, saw parts of the country and culture, and experienced and participated in church life.
As we wound down the mountains, I looked across the landscape and reflected on my time there. I was struck with this thought: “Wow, and we as Global Disciples are doing this in 73 more countries!”
A Global Disciples Vision Trip is an opportunity for North Americans to personally connect with the work of Global Disciples on location, and to discover ways they influence their circles and networks to pray for, provide for, and advocate for reaching least-reached people.
Groups are small to allow for meaningful interaction with our partners in each location. If you’re interested in a future Vision Trip, please contact us at info@globaldisciples.org Include VISION TRIP in the subject line.
