Amrita is in her mid-30s, a housewife and mother of three. She comes from a Hindu family that is orthodox in belief and practices. She lives in a town of about 50,000 people. And there are forty more communities within close reach—all Hindu.

Every village has a common temple for the villagers. Each home has its own temple—a separate room dedicated to their gods and goddesses—inside or on the rooftop of the house.  

Amrita said the gods and goddesses used to visit her, and it was like she was drunk. Eventually she was possessed by a demon which tormented her every day for about four years. Her family took her to all manner of doctors for help. She even spent a year getting medical treatment in a major city, but it accomplished nothing. 

One day someone told her about Brother Obed and how his church fellowship prayed for sick people in the name of Jesus, and they were healed. Obed is a pastor, and he also leads a Global Disciples program in the area.

Amrita’s entire family came to the church, and the church gathered round to pray for her. The Lord Jesus completely delivered her from the evil spirit! She and the entire family committed their lives to Christ.

Soon after this experience, Amrita threw away all the idols in her house and converted the temple room into a new kitchen. She uses that kitchen each day to serve the Lord and meet the needs of her local fellowship and her neighbors.

Amrita’s extended family has now heard about Jesus too, and four (so far) have accepted Him as Lord and Savior. Through her witness, seven others came to faith in Jesus Christ and are now actively involved in the church. She is eager to share the Gospel with others, and her kitchen—filled with the presence of Jesus—is her base of operations.
