Angry voices jarred Silvain awake. He opened his eyes and saw he was surrounded by men with weapons, part of the rebel faction terrorizing and disrupting this region of Cameroon.

Silvain was leading a team of disciple-makers from a local Global Disciples training. They had come into the heart of a crisis zone to share the Good News of Jesus. Being surrounded by rebels was not the start they anticipated. The rebel leader threatened Silvain and his team, insisting that they leave at daybreak or things would get ugly.

No one was going back to sleep. “All we could do was pray,” Silvain said.

In the morning, God gave him the courage to go out and speak to the rebels, to explain why they had come, and to his surprise, the rebels actually listened. 

“I saw God’s grace at work,” Silvain said. “All the threats they made the night before collapsed. They told us we were free to continue our evangelism, that they would support us with anything we needed!”

So they did. Silvain’s team led many people to faith in Christ and started a new, growing fellowship in this community.

Spirit-led courage is common among the men and women equipping people to reach their nations. So is a Spirit-led change of perspective. Alou directs a Global Disciples training in another part of Cameroon.

“Before Global Disciples, my vision was limited to the four walls of my church building,” Alou said. “But the teachings have changed me, broken me, and I realize there are lost souls in least-reached villages not far from me. I will no longer focus just on my city but go to these places.”

Alou put feet to his vision, training disciple-makers and sharing the Good News of Jesus in least-reached communities. Many heard, put their faith in Christ, and soon a church was planted. “God has also blessed our evangelism by adding small cells in two more villages. We give God the glory as we continue working and planting churches.”

Along with Spirit-led courage and perspective, we often see a Spirit-led change in motivation take root in those we train.

Beatriz is married to a pastor, but she was indifferent to her husband’s focus on reaching people. Evangelism was his thing—she had a market stall to run! Then she participated in a local Global Disciples Small Business Training. As she learned how to improve her business, Beatriz was surprised to discover her market stall could be a tool for sharing the Good News! Fired up by the possibilities, Beatriz took her training home and began to integrate it into her business.

Spirit-motivated by the spiritual needs around her, Beatriz plowed forward. Her business expanded enough to support the financial needs of their ministry. The church began growing, thanks to her outreach through the market stall. Now she is a happy partner in her husband’s ministry. And, yes, Beatriz is the one organizing evangelism to their community!

Motivated, courageous, and working with a fresh perspective—these are just a few ways the Holy Spirit is transforming lives in Cameroon and around the world. As Global Disciples, it’s a joy to share in their stories by equipping and encouraging God’s people to fulfill His mission.
