Simple Question, Amazing Possibilities
Amazed. So many Christians in Africa, Asia, and Latin America are amazed when they discover they can be self-sustained as they multiply disciples and plant churches among least-reached people.
It begins with a simple question: What’s in your hands?
The answers are as varied as the people.
Amazement, along with joy, freedom, and dignity, is part of what Global Disciples’ Small Business training offers. By answering that simple question, the near-culture worker learns how their skills and abilities can be effectively used to earn an income and reach their community.
A barber in India was amazed: “I didn’t realize I lay my hands on dozens of heads every week and that I could be praying over them and sharing Christ.”
They are taxi drivers, tea stall owners, salon operators, even a karate master…all ordinary disciples using what God has put in their hands to reach people and support in their disciple-making and church planting work.
What’s in your hands? This simple question also leads to amazing things for disciples of Jesus here in the U.S.! God has given you skills, experience, resources, even hobbies, to help move His Kingdom forward.
Our Global Disciples advocates across North America often use what’s in their hands to raise awareness for reaching the least-reached, and to support our efforts. Let me give you some examples:
A Fishing Pole: Verlin is an avid fisherman. When he invites a few guys along to fish, he shares stories from Global Disciples and asks his fishing buddies to get involved.
Carriages and Dutch Ovens: Tom and Lori are experts at cooking in Dutch ovens over a fire. Tom also has a collection of antique wagons. So, he’s invited friends to a Dutch oven breakfast, with a tour of his collection, and a chance to hear more about Global Disciples. “We can seat about 60,” Tom said. “I just wish my barn was bigger!”
Pickleball: When a ministry in Florida hosted a tournament, several local business leaders stepped in as sponsors and used this opportunity to promote Global Disciples instead of their own businesses.
A Church Prayer List: Jacob oversees the prayer list at his church. When a request from Global Disciples comes in, he gets 100+ prayer partners praying!
And there are others. Amanda uses her graphic design skills for local Global Disciples events. Tony and TJ combined passion and business sense to sponsor custom t-shirts. Myron and Pat are tapping their church connections to present Global Disciples updates in their area.
It’s truly amazing! What about you? What skills or experience, relationships or resources, has God placed in your hands for Kingdom use? We’d love to hear your ideas and invite you to join these advocates and friends as they raise awareness for reaching the least-reached.
