Statement of Participation

Over the past several years, Global Disciples’ participation in ExtraGive has given partners like you an opportunity to multiply your giving dollars and help further the work to reach the least-reached of our world with the Gospel of Christ. Once again, this year we plan to participate in this community-wide celebration of generosity. Being part of the ExtraGive stretch pool fundraiser will allow you to help us continue to train disciples in the 10-40 Window.

More than 400 local organizations are expected to participate this year. And approximately half a million dollars will be distributed to participating organizations based on their number of unique donors. And prizes will be handed out throughout the day on November 22, 2024.

This year, the sponsoring foundation of ExtraGive – the Lancaster County Community Foundation (LCCF) – has requested all organizations to post their non-discrimination policy. We were happy to do this, as Global Disciples operates under the law allowing religious organizations to operate according to their own religious beliefs. LCCF has not required that our policy aligns with their own or that of any other organization. It’s simply a way for donors to choose organizations aligned with their own personal values.

Our values at Global Disciples are Christ-centered. We are committed to:

Intimacy with Jesus

Who we are and what we do flows from our relationship with Christ.

Trusting Relationships

Building trust with our co-workers, partners and donors is essential.

Risk-Taking Obedience

Obeying Christ requires the courage to risk all for our God-given mission.

Unwavering Integrity

Being authentic, accountable, and truthful in our words and actions.

Serving with Humility

Modeling the way of Jesus is our goal, living selflessly for God’s glory.

Transforming Prayer

We want our work to be conceived, birthed, and carried out in prayer.

Global Disciples serves to equip, connect and facilitate cooperation in the global Body of Christ among clusters of churches focused on reaching those least reached with the Gospel. We assist in the development of locally-sustainable training in discipleship-mission, small business, and leadership, which result in reproducing fellowships of believers. And we always seek to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God (Micah 6:8).

We are looking forward to celebrating this community event in the Lancaster, Pennsylvania area.

Non-Discrimination Policy

It is the policy of Global Disciples to grant equal employment opportunities to all qualified persons without regard to race, color, ancestry, national origin, citizenship, sex, familial status, disability, genetic information, age (40+), or veteran status.  Every effort is made to select individuals who are best suited to the position based on qualifications, ability, work record, experience, and fit.

Global Disciples believes spiritual unity among its staff is paramount to the fulfillment of its mission.  As a religious organization, Global Disciples holds an organizational exemption from religious discrimination prohibitions in Title VII of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964.   We give preferential hiring to those who share and adhere to our religious beliefs, as defined in our Confession of Faith.  We also reserve the right to have additional selection criteria for positions with bona fide occupational qualifications.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHY DOES GLOBAL DISCIPLES PARTICIPATE IN EXTRAGIVE?

As a member of the Lancaster community, Global Disciples has enjoyed participating in this community-wide event over the past few years. The funds raised during ExtraGive help us to continue training disciples in the least-reached areas of the world.

WHY ARE SOME CHRISTIAN ORGANIZATIONS PULLING OUT OF EXTRAGIVE THIS YEAR?

Some Lancaster-based Christian organizations have interpreted the request to post their non-discrimination policies on the ExtraGive website as a way to vet their participation or to require their policies to align with that of the Lancaster County Community Foundation (LCCF).  LCCF says this is a misunderstanding of their request.

WHAT DOES THE LANCASTER COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION (LCCF) REQUIRE FOR PARTICIPATION IN EXTRAGIVE?

Participants must:

  • Be registered as a 501c3 charitable organization
  • Serve residents of Lancaster County
  • Provide an audit or independent financial review
  • Provide a nondiscrimination policy consistent with their legal requirements.

WHY DID LCCF REQUEST PARTICIPATING ORGANIZATIONS TO POST THEIR NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY THIS YEAR?

Following their adoption of an anti-hate policy, LCCF decided to also require all participating organizations in ExtraGive to upload their non-discrimination policies. The foundation did not require specific language to be included in that policy.

IS IT TRUE THAT LCCF IS DISCRIMINATING AGAINST CHRISTIAN ORGANIZATIONS?

Global Disciples’ leadership reviewed all materials from LCCF and did not see anything to specifically prejudice Christian organizations.

IS LCCF REQUIRING ALL ORGANIZATIONS TO AGREE WITH CERTAIN HIRING POLICIES?

No. LCCF posted their own non-discrimination policy and only asked that all other organizations post theirs for full transparency. At no point did they require our organization to agree with LCCF hiring policies or their values.

WHAT IS GLOBAL DISCIPLES HIRING POLICY?

We ask that employees be committed followers of Christ and adhere to our Confession of Faith. We give preferential hiring to those who share and adhere to our religious beliefs in accordance with our exemption from religious discrimination prohibitions in Title VII of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964.

DOESN’T STAYING IN EXTRAGIVE MEAN GLOBAL DISCIPLES ENDORSES LCCF’S OWN NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY?

No. LCCF never asked Global Disciples to agree with any particular non-discrimination policy. They only asked us to post our own policy.

WILL GLOBAL DISCIPLES CONTINUE TO PARTICIPATE IN EXTRAGIVE IF THEY ASK PARTICIPANTS TO AGREE WITH CERTAIN NON-DISCRIMINATION AND HIRING POLICIES?

Our leadership carefully reviews LCCF’s requirements on a year-by-year basis. Global Disciples would never partner with any organization requiring us to go against our Christian beliefs or core values.

AS A DONOR, HOW DO I KNOW WHICH ORGANIZATIONS TO SUPPORT DURING EXTRAGIVE?

Global Disciples encourages any potential donor in ExtraGive to review the profiles of organizations on the ExtraGive site and choose organizations to support which align with the donor’s own values and community interests.
