Yesterday’s Seeds, Today’s Harvest
Seeds are tiny, amazing packages containing growth and new fruit. While we enjoy harvest at this time of year—the apples, corn, pumpkins, grains, and more—it’s only possible because of the seeds.
As Global Disciples, we plant many seeds each year. And the results we report annually reflect a harvest from seeds planted one, two, even three or more years earlier. Let’s look at seeds planted and what they’re producing:
- Equipping seeds: In the course of a year, Global Disciples equipped 555 men and women as training directors to equip others to reach the least-reached with the gospel of Jesus. Each director will potentially train at least 12-15 more people to make disciples, use small business to sustainably reach people, and develop as leaders.
- Relational Seeds: We plant seeds by building relationships with church leaders in 65 nations. Global Disciples partners with 1,455 clusters or networks of churches with access and a vision to reach least-reached people. We also nurture relational seeds with churches in North America, helping them fulfill their vision for reaching people as they invest in and pray for Global Disciples.
- Developing Seeds: We develop partnerships with those who have access to least-reached people groups—people who can introduce us to other leaders, set up conversations, connect to resources, and help move us forward through the doors God opens. These seeds tend to germinate longer, yet, in the last year, we’ve seen these seeds sprout and grow, opening up places and people we have prayed over for years.
- Prayer Seeds: Prayer is foundational to all we do as Global Disciples. Right now, about 933 intercessors teams around the world cover our trainings, programs, our staff, our leadership, and join us in the vision to reach people. And many individual intercessors pray at home, in churches, over breakfast, in retirement communities, as women’s groups, farmers, business leaders—covering all we do in prayer. Their impact is immeasurable!
- Generosity Seeds: This year, about 1,676 donors gave generously and sacrificially to assist Global Disciples in the mission to reach least-reached people. That includes individuals and families, churches, church networks, business leaders, legacy gifts, and grants from charitable and family foundations. In nine nations, local business and professional leaders are working as National Foundations to promote, provide, and pray for Global Disciples activity in their own countries. Their commitment inspires others and encourages further generosity. We are deeply grateful. And we pray for more who can plant seeds of generosity.
God, the Master Gardener, nurtures these seeds and cultivates a great harvest. That harvest includes 11,145 disciple-makers equipped and sent out in 2021. They planted at least 2,051 new churches, and helped 48,993 people come to faith in Jesus Christ! That’s something to celebrate! And we joyfully anticipate seeing what today’s seeds will yield in a future harvest.
